JUPITER, Fla. (AP) – Jim Edmonds was a bit more optimistic about his chances of getting ready by opening day following another batting practice session Friday.
St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said this week that Edmonds and Juan Encarnacion, both coming off surgery, were likely to begin the season on the 15-day disabled list. Edmonds said his right shoulder has improved.
“I feel like I need to be ready for opening day if I can,” said Edmonds, who has taken BP four times. “I don’t care what anybody else wants, I’m trying to get ready for my teammates and I’ll do everything I can.”
He’s also realistic.
“You ever see that commercial when they drop the car from the helicopter and the other one goes underneath?” Edmonds said. “It’s going to be that close. I’ve just got to hope for some health and hope I don’t have any setbacks.”
