PARIS – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension of Oxford County is offering the Garden Angel Project this gardening season.
The project pairs master gardener volunteers with others of limited financial means who also love to garden but are no longer physically able to do so without help.
The Garden Angel arranges weekly visits throughout the growing season to help plan, plant and care for the harvest vegetables and flowers from a small garden on the property of the recipient.
The intent of the program is to bring the joy of gardening, the nutrition of fresh vegetables and the beauty of flowers to the folks who would otherwise be unable to do so.
Angels also provide social contact and a way for recipients to continue to be involved with an activity that means so much to them.
There is no charge to participate. Recipients are paired with Garden Angels on the basis of geographic location, physical ability, gardening skills and site requirements. Individuals interested in having a Garden Angel are encouraged to contact Barbara Murphy at the Oxford County Extension office at 1-800-287-1482 or e-mail [email protected].
