SCARBOROUGH – A 41-year-old Bridgton man was killed early Friday morning in a single-vehicle accident on the Maine Turnpike. The crash occurred at mile 42 of Interstate 95.
John L. Rose lost control of his Ford Aerostar van around 1 a.m. while trying to pass another vehicle in the northbound lane, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The van rolled over several times before coming to a stop in a ditch. Rose, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, part of which landed on him. He died at the scene.
State Police Cpl. Ron Brooks said alcohol was a factor in the crash. Rose’s license had been suspended in 2001 after he was convicted of operating under the influence.
