PARIS – The annual Academic Day was held March 8 at Oxford Hills Christian Academy.
High school students from the Oxford campus joined the elementary and middle schoolers at the South Paris campus for the day. All participated in Math Olympics, science projects, art projects, high school choir or speech presentations.
Starting off the day, students competed in a Math Olympics. In the individual round, all the students answered grade-appropriate questions and were awarded gold, silver or bronze pencils. Three students, Jacob Carr, Chris Dyck and Caleb Lynch, achieved a perfect score in the round.
In the team round, students completed a variety of math puzzles and worksheets to earn points for their teams. Teams consisted of elementary, middle and high school students working together on problems. The competition was close, but one team emerged the winner. Members of the first-place team were Becky Field, Erica Ellingwood, Joshua McAllister, Ben Field, Tanner Marston and Jacob Padgett.
Students competed in speech by reciting poems, readings and performing skits in the afternoon in front of classmates and judges. The evening program for parents, family and friends started with a repeat performance of the speech meet, Math Olympic awards and art and science awards. The high school choir sang “How Deep the Father’s Love For Us.” Family and friends were then invited to view projects on display.
