Once again, I am feeling so proud of my local paper for its unbelievable coverage of the deadly shooting in Auburn on March 30.
I am far from being a prude, but am again shocked and offended by the cover picture Saturday. One of my children handed the issue to me along with the question, “Mom, is that person dead?”
Obviously, it was appropriate in the editors’ view to put that picture on the cover. But in my world, I consider how the family of that person must feel and how the children in the area will be affected. I would also consider what good comes of printing a picture like that. Did none of those questions occur to the editors?
I understand there was a disclaimer, stating the picture was graphic and disturbing, but that doesn’t make it right. Maybe next time the Sun Journal feels the need to print a picture of that nature, each paper should be wrapped with a wrapper stating “Caution: This paper contains graphic and disturbing material.” That way people can decide whether or not they would like to view it or allow their children access to the paper.
Thanks for making this subscriber proud, yet again.
