• One of the worst storms of the winter is the general verdict in regard to the snow storm which began Monday night and continued through Tuesday, except for a short time during the day. Electric car service had been delayed and, in some cases, entirely stopped. At the gatehouse on the canal, it was reported that about 13 or 14 inches of snow had fallen.
• “Catcher’s mitts nowadays carry too much excess baggage,” said Jack Toft, in discussing the gloves of the back stop. “Every year, they seem to be enlarged and more weight is added to them until now they are about like a barn door. And yet with all their size, they are used only at one spot. If the ball strikes anywhere else except the regular pocket it is as irrevocably lost as if it had never been seen.”

Saturday cutbacks in Twin City postal service are scheduled to go into effect this week end, Lewiston and Auburn postmasters said last night.
Both post offices have received orders to stop Saturday mail deliveries, except for special delivery, and to close the post office windows Saturday.
Auburn Postmaster Donald C. Gautier said the change will be made this Saturday, unless the offices are informed differently from Washington, D.C. The cutbacks have been ordered to save money between now and the start of the new fiscal year July 1.

• The use of plastic money, credit cards, has become so commonplace that it is taken for granted. But now, with interest rates at high levels, the big oil companies are finding their credit cards an expensive luxury. As a result, two major firms are offering gasoline-for-cash at a discount. Gasoline prices at the pump have been declining. The move to cash sales can bring those prices down even lower.
• Those flashing red and yellow lights at the intersections along downtown Lisbon Street in Lewiston will “hopefully” go on a regular stop-and-go cycle in about a week, a Maine Department of Transportation traffic engineer said Monday.
