JAY – The town officially owns the former Jay Family Restaurant. Papers were signed and the building was insured on Tuesday, Town Manager Ruth Marden said.
The more than 7,000-square-foot building will be renovated into the town office and police station.
The Building Committee was meeting Wednesday night to discuss whether members will recommend to selectmen putting architectural services out to bid or to remain with Bunker & Savage Architects of Augusta, Marden said.
That firm has been working on the town office project with the Jay Building Committee for several years and did a study on the existing town office to determine its deficits, which included air quality and mold issues.
The Building Committee also planned to discuss a request from the contractor that put on the roof at the Jay Family Restaurant years ago to look at that roof again because the contractor doesn’t feel the roof is in as bad shape as committee members thought, Marden said.
Panel members also planned to review floor plans and financial reports.
As of Wednesday, Marden said, there was $458,791.45 in the town’s reserve account for the renovation project.
