‘Last Comic’s’ Blue playing for laughs in Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND – Josh Blue, winner of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing Season 4,” and known as the “comedian who puts the cerebral in cerebral palsy,” will perform at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 21, at the South Portland High School Auditorium.

Blue is a fast-rising star who appeared on Comedy Central’s “Mind of Mencia” before gaining national attention as the “Last Comic Standing” – winning over viewers with his self-deprecating routines about living with cerebral palsy.

The show will benefit Northeast Hearing and Speech Center Inc., a nonprofit speech and hearing center that has served Maine and New Hampshire since 1924. Their audiologists provide hearing evaluations and dispense hearing aids for babies to boomers to grandparents. Speech-language pathologists work with young children at the center and in many preschools in the Portland area. The center also works with older children and adults with autism, language learning problems, stuttering problems, and voice disorders.

Besides being a comedian, Blue is a talented artist and a standout U.S. Paralympic soccer player.

“I realize that people are going to stare, so I want to give them something to stare at,” Blue jokes. He uses his sense of humor, versatile persona and unique brand of reverse teasing to defy stereotypes and encourage others to overcome preconceived notions about people who are considered disabled.

Blue has been performing to sold-out audiences all over the country.

He recently released a DVD titled “7 More Days in the Tank.” He has made recent appearances on the “Ellen Degeneres Show” and “Live with Regis and Kelly” and performed for U.S. troops aboard the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan.

General admission tickets are $30. Tickets may be purchased from Northeast Hearing and Speech Center by calling 874-1065, or visiting the center’s office at 43 Baxter Blvd.
