LEWISTON – A 56-year-old College Street man remained in critical condition Monday, a day after he was burned trying to put out a fire at his home.
Paul St. Amand was being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with burns suffered in the Sunday-morning blaze at 34 College St.
Investigators said the fire appeared to have started when an electric heater in St. Amand’s bathroom ignited a basket of clothes. They believe St. Amand was burned while trying to put out the fire shortly after 3 a.m.
St. Amand was taken to Central Maine Medical Center before he was air lifted to the Massachusetts hospital, where he remained Monday night.
