AUBURN – The Central Maine Community College Chapter of SkillsUSA made a successful return to the state competition held recently in Bangor. Matt Ouellette of Cornville and Kyle Guerette of Frenchville won gold medals and Alex Nering of Weld a silver in their respective competitions. They are eligible to represent CM at the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference and Skill Championships to be held in June in Kansas City.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. Formerly known as Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives who are working together to ensure the nation has a skilled work force.

The students who participated in the state conference were Matt Ouellette, carpentry; Alex Nering, architectural drafting; Joe Higgins of Oakland, job skill demonstration; Ryan Perro of Winslow, precision machining; Craig Young of Dixfield, job skill; Andrew Milligan of Rumford, precision machining; Kyle Guerrette, automotive technology; and Eric Spaulding of Lewiston, computer technology.
