AUBURN – Walkers, cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), community leaders, team captains and workers are needed to make the American Cancer Society Relay For Life a reality in the Auburn-Lewiston area.

The next volunteer committee meeting for the Relay For Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Auburn Housing Authority, Great Falls Plaza, to continue planning the event designed to raise funds and awareness of the fight against cancer in Androscoggin County.

Relay For Life allows participants from all walks of life – including patients, medical support staff, corporations, civic and other organizations, and community volunteers – to join in the fight against cancer. Participants walk around a track relay-style overnight.

Teams will gather at the Edward Little High School track on Friday, June 15, and volunteers are needed to begin planning.

“Relay For Life is as much an awareness raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fundraiser,” said Janet Miles, Relay For Life of Androscoggin County education chairwoman.

Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams, seek community support, underwrite, coordinate logistics, find refreshments and prizes and plan entertainment. To volunteer or be a team participant, contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 or online at www.cancer.org.
