DIXFIELD – Ken Labrecque and his friends Greg Lindholm and Richard Hollis will play a variety of jazz and blues music from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Dixfield CoffeeHouse.
Born in Biddeford, Labrecque graduated from the University of Maine at Augusta with an associate’s degree in jazz and contemporary music in 1985. After a year performing around New England and Canada, he re-enrolled at the University Of Maine at Augusta as part of the first graduating class in the school’s bachelor of music program.
Labrecque began his career as a private teacher in 1985 at Hebron Academy, where he taught for five years. He later taught at Fryeburg Academy, Gould Academy, the Maine Jazz Camp under John Foss, and as artist-in-residence at Turner Alternative School. He also taught at the University of Maine at Augusta for a year and currently teaches at the University of Maine at Farmington. In addition, he also taught privately for Carroll’s Music Center and Perkin’s Music House, and has been a member of the adjunct faculty of Bates College since 1987. In 2000, he began a career as a public school teacher at Dirigo High School.
As a performer, he has traveled all over New England and Canada, and has played regularly at Slate’s Restaurant. His group The Bad Dogs has performed throughout central Maine. Labrecque is currently recording a CD of jazz standards and classical works and lives on a small mountain in Dixfield.
