Scouts earn merit badges or awards for meeting

AUBURN – Pack 145, Cub Scouts, Durham, recently visited Republic Jewelry and Collectibles of Auburn as part of a program called Baseball Card Clubhouse, sponsored by the Major League Baseball Players Association.

The program is designed as a den meeting for Boy and Cub Scouts to receive an achievement award or merit badge.

Scouts were invited to visit Republic where they learned about card collecting and received a baseball card-collecting kit containing packs of 2007 baseball cards, an album and a guide to collecting.

During the meeting, the kids learn about the history of sports cards, how to protect their collection and play games with their new cards.

Leaders are Louann McCarthy and Julie Wagoner.
