WILTON – An Earth Day week cleanup was held Wednesday afternoon when members of Boy Scout Troop 518 and The Wilton Group traveled from downtown to East Wilton picking up litter along the way.
A group of 16 troop members donned reflective vests loaned from the Highway Department and gloves donated by Sandy River Health Care to pick up litter and bottles along the road. The project covered 4 miles.
Some members swept the Methodist Church parking lot, the troop’s charter organization, said troop leader Andy Shattuck. The troop normally meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Scout Cabin in Kineowatha Park, he said.
Irv Faunce of The Wilton Group and the Rev. Doug Dunlap worked their way along Main Street cleaning up litter. The Wilton Group, Faunce said, is an organization of citizens and businesses who work to promote Wilton.
The town’s highway crew will dispose of the bags of litter. Wilton police provided safety patrols during the pickup.
