LEWISTON – Mayors John Jenkins of Auburn and Laurent F. Gilbert Sr. of Lewiston have proclaimed Saturday, April 28, as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Day in the Twin Cities in recognition of the 300 individuals in Androscoggin County who suffer from the disease.
This year’s Androscoggin County MS Walk will take place Saturday, rain or shine, at the Lewiston High School. The walk will begin at 9 a.m. following a brief starting ceremony.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. in the high school gym, where a light breakfast will be available to walkers. The walk encompasses a five-mile course through the Bates College area and shorter routes are available for those unable to complete the five-mile course. The track at the high school is also available for those who prefer.
Rest stops and water stops are available along the route and have been sponsored by local businesses. A light lunch will also be provided by local businesses to all those who walk.
This year’s walk will include a 50/50 drawing, a raffle of items donated by local merchants, information on the local support group and door prizes.
The Androscoggin County Walk Committee invites anyone interested in walking or volunteering the day of the walk to contact Walk Committee Co-chairman Mike Roy at 524-2749 or Walk Committee Co-chairwoman Evelyn Lauze at 946-7187 for more information.
