FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Trond Saeverud, will give its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in Nordica Auditorium. The program includes Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, Bach Cantata #51 and Haydn’s Symphony #88.
The UMF Orchestra is made up of UMF students, community members and local high-school students who perform a wide range of orchestral repertoire. In the Bach Cantata, they will be joined by soprano soloist Jane Parker, an active musician and instructor of voice students at UMF.
Saeverud, a violinist, has been a frequent soloist with orchestras in Norway and IN Denmark, has produced CDs with orchestras in both countries and regularly premieres new works dedicated to him. Concert tours in Japan, the United States and Europe have been combined with work as concertmaster of several Scandinavian orchestras.
Saeverud had a successful London debut in 1992 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. His New York debut was as soloist with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at the Lincoln Center. His latest CD, “HIKA,” was chosen as “Strad Selection” in the May 2002 issue of The Strad. He currently serves as concertmaster of the Bangor Symphony.
Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, contact the UMF visual and performing arts department at 778-7072.
