Event canceled

CANTON – The tour of Stevens Island and Rivershore Preserve, an event hosted by Androscoggin Land Trust and Stanton Bird Club, has been canceled due to inclement weather and high water. The event was originally scheduled for today.

Card challenge

RUMFORD – The International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring 362 will hold the 2007 Elliott Card Challenge at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the Hotel Harris, 25 Hartford St. The event is free and open to the public.

The challenge is open to all IBM members. Contestants will be given a new, sealed deck of cards and have up to 10 minutes to perform any card magic of their choosing. The winner will be decided by a secret ballot of the members attending. For complete rules, see the Web site, www.ibmring362.org.

Musical ministry

CARTHAGE – The Carthage Union Church and the Dixfield Common Baptist Church have announced that Glory Bound will offer a musical ministry at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the Carthage Union Church.

Glory Bound, located in Hampden, will offer Christian music and words of praise. The concert is free, and there will refreshments and fellowship after. A love offering will be taken.

Relay brunch

DIXFIELD – A Pampered Chef brunch will be held at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, April 29, at the Dixfield Congregational Church, High Street. Cost will be by donation. Around 12:15 p.m. a demonstration of products will begin.

Proceeds from the sale will go toward kitchen tools needed for the coffee houses, brunches and suppers. For more information, phone Nancy at 364-3633.

Missions events

MEXICO – The Mexico First Baptist Church, 20 Roxbury Road, will have a Missions Weekend through Sunday, April 29.

At 8 a.m. Saturday the men of the church are invited to an informal breakfast and Bible study where the guest speaker will be John Hosie, missionary with the African Island Mission. Hosie will also be the guest speaker at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday school and the Sunday service at 4 p.m.

There will be a potluck luncheon after the Sunday morning service. After the luncheon, church youth will go on summer missionary trips and will be given a “mission shower” where needed items will be presented to them.

Cemetery meeting

MEXICO – The annual meeting of the Farrington Morton Cemetery Association will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in the Mexico Congregational Church Conference Room.

Election of officers and other pertinent business will be on the agenda. Anyone owning a lot in the cemetery is a member of the association and is welcome to attend.
