This is in response to the editorial printed April 25. While I agree with the editorial’s main message regarding the author of the faux-news piece about the ham story, I have to take exception to the Sun Journal’s giving “Fox & Friends” a pass. Yes, you asked for an on-air correction, but the truth is that the show is not a victim.
The show is a lazy purveyor of rumor and innuendo. A small amount of research would have uncovered the story as a hoax, and Fox clearly failed to do even that. The show’s personnel picked a story off the Internet and reported it as fact. That is reprehensible, and hack journalism.
Frankly, that sort of “reporting” is a major problem in our public discourse, and it needs to stop.
Idiots such as the “comedian” who wrote the hoax will always exist. Anyone reporting on such a story needs to do a little work to verify it.
