CAMDEN – The Camden Public Library will bring the acclaimed Symphony Space program “Selected Shorts” to the stage of the Camden Opera House at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 6. “Selected Shorts” is heard across the country on National Public Radio and every Sunday at 7 p.m. on the radio stations of MPBN.

Host Isaiah Sheffer will read pieces by Maine authors or with Maine themes along with actors Ted Marcoux and John Shea.

Sheffer is founder and artistic director of Symphony Space in New York City. Last year, he collaborated with Bay Chamber Concerts and the Ying Quartet on a performance of Camden composer John Duffy’s “Mark Twain” at the Strand Theatre. Sheffer provided the narration as the voice of Twain. He will read “More Life,” by Mark Strand.

Marcoux will read “Fast Forward,” by Peter Cameron, which involves a road trip to Maine with one friend pretending to be another’s fiancé.

Marcoux has appeared in a number of movies and stage productions, including “A Few Good Men” on Broadway. He has appeared on television in “The Practice,” “NYPD Blue,” “Law & Order,” “Boston Public,” “24” and “Six Feet Under.”

Shea will read “Once More to the Lake,” by author E.B. White, who was born in Brooklin, Maine, and wrote many of his most beloved novels from his farm in Maine. Members of his family remain in the Camden area.

An accomplished stage and screen actor, Shea’s theater work includes “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” and “Yentl.” His 45 films include the Academy Award-winning “Missing” and “Southie,” which he co-wrote and directed. His television work includes a notable run as Lex Luthor on “Lois and Clark.”

Following the lecture, there will be a question-and-answer session. In addition, the Owl & Turtle Bookshop will be on hand with copies of related books. The readers will be available for a limited time to sign books and CDs.

Tickets are $18 or $25 per event for adults, depending on seating location. Patron tickets are available for $45 per event and include admittance to the patron post-lecture reception at the library.
