LEWISTON – “Eye Answers Express: Emerging Eye Concerns at Menopause” will be the topic of discussion at the Wednesday, May 9, meeting of Red Hot Mamas, a nationwide support group dedicated to menopause management education.
Optometrist Pauline V. Beale will discuss the dry eyes, eye allergies and vision issues that occur at menopause. At menopause it is common for women to experience dry eyes. In fact, the volume of lubricating tears at menopause can be up to 60 percent less than for a young adult woman.
A Lewiston native and graduate of the New England College of Optometry, Beale has practiced optometry in the Lewiston-Auburn area since 1970. She is certified by the Low Vision Section of the American Board of Optometry.
She is a past president of the Maine Optometric Association and the Maine Board of Optometry. She has lectured extensively on low-vision rehabilitation. She has been affiliated with the Maine Center for the Blind, Statewide Diabetic Eye Disease Prevention Program and the Advisory Eye Committee for the Maine Motor Vehicle Department.
All women, their partners and family members are welcome to participate in the May 9 meeting, which will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Chairmen’s Rooms on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building, located next to CMMC.
