AUBURN – Center Street drivers found themselves trapped between two road projects Monday morning, leading to slightly longer commutes.

Some traffic came from drivers avoiding sewer line work on Turner Street and road expansion around the Auburn Mall area.

In addition, crews from natural gas company Northern Utilities are replacing cast-iron gas mains throughout the city. They are scheduled to be digging along the western side of Center Street for the next couple of weeks, causing delays for southbound drivers.

“It shouldn’t be a problem for northbound traffic, and we’re going to try to move southbound traffic into the center lane when we can,” said police Capt. Kevin Mulherin. “It all depends on where on Center Street they’re working each day. If we have room, we can use that center lane.”

He suggested drivers plan to leave a little earlier for the next few weeks.
