Film on COs
FARMINGTON – A documentary film that examines experiences of United States soldiers who became disillusioned with their role in waging the Gulf War will be screened at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, on the UMF campus, Thomas Auditorium.
“Blood Makes the Grass Grow: Conscientious Objectors and the Gulf War” will be presented by Western Mountains Peace Action Workshop. It is free and open to the public. Thomas Auditorium is adjacent to Ricker Hall next to Mantor Library, High Street. Donations will be accepted to continue the monthly series of educational films.
Plant sale
FARMINGTON – Members of the Mt. Blue Area Garden Club will hold their annual perennial plant sale at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Meetinghouse Park. Garden club members or anyone wishing to donate plants for the sale should drop them off between 7:30 and 8 a.m. the day of the sale. For more information, call Judy Dunham at 645-9782.
Another plant sale
WILTON – The Wilton Tyngtown Club will hold its yearly plant sale from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Academy Hill School cafeteria. Choice perennials and annuals, herbs and baked goods will be for sale. Proceeds will benefit the Wilton Early Childhood Center and the Wilton Free Public Library.
Service night
JAY – North Jay Grange recently held a Community Service Award Night, which opened with a potluck supper. Speaker was Steve Barker of SIB Enterprises, North Jay. After his speech, he was also the surprised recipient of the annual award.
Barker is a supporter of the grange and numerous other organization and schools in the area. He has turned the former Bass building into a bottle redemption center, storage rentals and has an indoor/outdoor yard sale. He and his family have turned a once-empty building into useful property. Barker is also chairman of the Jay Development Committee.
The grange will also hold a spring food/rummage sale on Saturday, May 5. There will be tickets for a raffle for two $50 gas cards to be drawn on June 26. Sale from the tickets will go toward the restoration fundraiser. For more information, call 645-4628, 645-2910 or 645-4211.
Monthly lunch
FARMINGTON – Old South First Congregational Church will serve its monthly free community luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19.
May’s luncheon will be held on the third Saturday of the month instead of the usual second Saturday.
The menu will include roast pork with rice pilaf, mixed vegetable, apple sauce, dinner rolls and pie.
Delivery service will be available in the Farmington area. Call the church office at 778-0424 during the week or the church kitchen, 778-4438, on the morning of the luncheon for delivery.
