At Monmouth Middle School, the seventh and eighth graders have an interesting schedule. On maroon days, the seventh graders get to go outside and run around, and burn up all of their energy, but the eighth graders have to stay in and go to their seventh period class. The same thing, except vice versa, happens on white days. The eighth graders get to go out and the seventh graders stay inside. The only time when both grades get recess is when there is inside recess, and then nobody gets to run around.

Also, the seventh and eighth graders have gym for only half the year. The school is trying to get rid of fatty foods and sugary foods, which is good, but kids need to run around and get their energy out, and they can’t do that if they don’t have any scheduled time for those kinds of things. Teenagers need time to get their energy out and hang out with their friends. Without that time, by the end of the day all of that energy is built up inside of them and about ready to explode. That could be one of the reasons why teenagers are so hard to get along with at the end of the day.
