DIXFIELD – Selectmen have set a special meeting for 5 p.m. today at Ludden Memorial Library to appoint a new town manager.

They will also accept the resignation of Selectman Brenda Turbide.

According to an agenda made public Tuesday afternoon, the board will enter into a closed session to discuss a labor contract for the town manager’s position. They will then come back into public session to make the appointment.

The town received 15 applications for the position that was vacated by Jeff Jacobson in January. Since then, neighboring Mexico Town Manager John Madigan has filled the leadership role for both towns on a half-time basis each.

Chairwoman Bettina Martin said the hiring committee interviewed five applicants, then conducted a second interview with the finalist on Tuesday.

Turbide, a member of the Water Advisory Committee, has served two years as selectman. She completed one year remaining in a former selectman’s term, then was re-elected last June to a full, three-year term.

Her resignation is effective June 1.

A budget workshop to continue work on the 2007-08 municipal budget will follow.
