AUBURN – Coldwell Banker Millett Realty has announced the recipients for this year’s annual Gary Thompson Memorial Soccer Scholarship award given by the associates and staff at Millett Realty: Abigail Gilbert of St. Dominic Regional High School and Brittney French of Edward Little High School.
Gilbert attends St. Dom’s and has been active in Key Club, serving as treasurer, the Kiwanis pancake breakfast and Trinity Soup Kitchen. “Abby received the Coaches Award and was named to the Western Maine Conference All-Star Team. She was a leader on and off the field,” said Kathryn Little, girls varsity soccer coach.
French attends Edward Little High School and is a member of the National Honor Society. “Brittney has seen many personal accolades: All-Conference, All-Academic, All-Region, All-State and Player of the Year. Despite her personal accomplishments, she has maintained a ‘team comes first’ attitude,” said Valerie Brown, varsity girls soccer coach.
“This is the third year in which we have awarded scholarships to local students with exemplary academic and sports records. Everyone at Millett Realty takes part in raising the money and then working through the selection process,” said Sharon Millett, owner.
The scholarship award was founded by the sales team and staff at Millett in honor of their friend and colleague, Gary Thompson, who died unexpectedly in 2003. Thompson was an avid soccer fan, having played and coached for many years in local youth soccer programs. Thompson was an active member of the local community and had done much during his lifetime to give back to the community. He was a Realtor at Millett for eight years.
The scholarship is open to all senior varsity soccer players at Edward Little, Lewiston High and St. Dom’s who are going on to higher education after graduation. The students are evaluated on academic achievements, community service and participation in soccer programs.
