The Midcoast Symphony will be joined by two rising young vocalists in its final concerts of the season Friday, May 11, at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston, and Saturday, May 12 at the Orion Performing Arts Center in Topsham.
Both will be conducted by Rohan Smith, the orchestra’s music director, and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The program, titled “Italian Festival,” will feature mezzo-soprano Heather Johnson and baritone Christopher Burchett in performances of arias and duets from operas by Puccini, Rossini, Donizetti, and Mozart. The program will also include Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino Overture,” and Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, “The Italian,” completed after the young composer visited Italy in 1831.

She has appeared with the Portland Opera Repertory Theater, the Boston Pops Orchestra, Glimmerglass Opera in New York, and with a number of opera companies throughout the United States. This season, she is appearing with the New York City Opera in “Pirates of Penzance” and as Flora in “La Traviata.”
Burchett has appeared with the New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera and Santa Fe Opera. He is also frequently sought after for his concert work in a wide range of repertoire, which includes many of the masterpieces of choral and vocal literature.
