POLAND – Camp Connor, a co-ed day camp owned and operated by the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA for youngsters age 6 to 13, will open for its 41st season. The YMCA will also run a new Teen Leaders Camp for kids age 14 to 16.
The teen leadership camp is based on the YMCA values of character development and is designed to provide teenagers with experiences that will enable them to build leadership skills. Participants will be involved in a variety of camp activities and will have opportunities for exploration outside the camp setting.
Camp Connor is located on Lower Range Pond. Combined with a large playing field, beach, wooded areas, adventure island and a main lodge, Camp Connor offers a natural environment for children.
The YMCA provides daily transportation to and from Camp Connor at designated pick-up and drop-off points in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Activities include archery, arts and crafts, boats and canoes, field trips, nature walks, overnights, youth sports, team building, swim lessons, free swim, theme weeks and special events.
Camp Connor will again be directed by Chris Shea, assisted by Louise Tirabassi.
Campers can sign up for any number of weeks or sign up for the summer (nine weeks). Enrollment is limited for each session. Parent handbooks will be available upon registration, providing more details about camp and the daily operations.
An open house is scheduled for Saturday, June 16, prior to the start of camp. For more information, stop by the YMCA, 62 Turner St., call 795-4095 or visit www.alymca.com.
