LEWISTON – Popular French Canadian folk musician Benoit Bourque will be a special guest Thursday, May 10, at an evening of Franco-American culture hosted by the Lewiston Public Library.
Serving as emcee for this Soiree de Chansons, Bourque will accompany himself on accordion as he leads the audience in singing an assortment of traditional songs from both Quebec and France. Joining him will be vocalists Paul Farrell, Gilberte Farrell and Aliette Couturier, members of the local Franco-American band The Silvertones.
Bourque, who hails from the Montreal suburb of Vercheres, is known as one of Quebec’s leading traditional artists, having performed most recently with the award-winning band Le Vent du Nord. He is a dynamic dancer as well as a singer and multi-instrumentalist – and often treats audiences to energized jigging and bones-playing.
The soiree will begin at 6:30 p.m. It will take place in Callahan Hall on the third floor of the Lewiston Library at 200 Lisbon St. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, with no advance reservations available. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
