PERU – A Stagecoach Road man was free on Monday three days after he was arrested by police who said they found a variety of illegal drugs at his home.

Robert “Gee” Gallant, 52, was arrested at his 6 Stagecoach Road home Friday and charged with trafficking in crack cocaine, acquiring prescription drugs by deception, possession of Oxycodone and furnishing marijuana.

At about 2 p.m. Friday, police and drug agents went to Gallant’s home with a search warrant, said Maine Drug Enforcement Supervisor Gerry Baril.

Police said they found evidence that Gallant was manufacturing crack and that he had previously been cultivating marijuana. They also found an ounce of pot, hydrocodone tablets, and Percocet, which had been crushed for snorting, Baril said. Gallant was accused of deceiving a health care provider in order to get a prescription for the hydrocodone.

A man who was at the home with Gallant was allowed to leave after turning over a small amount of pot police believe was purchased at the home.

Police and drug agents in the area are familiar with Gallant, a longtime Peru resident, from previous criminal investigations, Baril said.

Gallant was booked at the Rumford police station and later released on $6,000 bail.
