Senior meeting

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon High School Guidance Office will host “Jump Starting the Senior Year” for juniors and their parents at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the Lisbon High School library.

The presentation will allow parents and students to learn how to make the most of this summer so the beginning of senior year is more organized. Included will be handout information on various post-secondary choices and financial aid. For details, contact the guidance office at 353-3030, ext. 2006.

Robin Dow SC

AUBURN – Robin Dow Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, 426 Washington St. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. Bingo will be played after a bag lunch and there will be the usual raffle table.

Sixty-six members were present when the group met April 25, with President Merry Strout presiding. Welcomed was Helen Stelmok as a new member, Lee and Kay Koss, returning from winter vacationing in Florida for the winter, and Eleanor Jewel, returning from an illness. Those having birthdays in April were noted and “Happy Birthday” was sung. Flowers were sent to Frances Robitaille, a patient at CMMC.

Chairwoman Evelyn Sawin stated she had two seats available on her trip to Foster’s Lobster Bake, York, for June 22, cost $49. Those wishing may make reservations at Robin Dow meetings or phone her at 998-4577. One does not have to be a member to attend.

Attendance prize winners were Evelyn Sawin and Pat Donohue; pot of gold, Lee Koss, Guy Donohue and Virginia Houston. At the close of the meeting and following a bag lunch, members played bingo.

Family month

AUBURN – The Riverside Drive Baptist Church, 1085 Riverside Drive, will celebrate Family Month each Sunday from Mother’s Day through Father’s Day, May 13 to June 17, at 10:45 a.m.

The messages will explore Biblical truths that will build and strengthen the family, both in marriage and parenting. Singles planning to marry and have children will also benefit from the messages. The public is invited. For more information, call 782-5400.

Chapter Martel

LEWISTON – Chapter Martel, Association Canado-Americaine, will hold its last seasonal meeting and meal at noon Monday, May 14, at Marco’s Restaurant, 12 Mollison Way.

On the agenda will be installation of chapter officers for 2007-08. Jeanne-D’Arc Turgeon will preside over the installation. Chapter President Cecile Paradis said she hopes for full attendance.

Legion to meet

AUBURN – American Legion Post 31, 426 Washington St. North, will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, May 14, at its home post.

Regular members are asked to attend. The post is seeking new members and welcomes veterans who wish to participate. For more information, phone 783-2340.

Seniors dinner

AUBURN – The New Auburn Senior Citizens will host a Chinese dinner for members only at noon Wednesday May 18, at the St. Louis Church basement hall for a cost of $3.

The regular meeting was held May 4, with President Virginia Levasseur presiding. May birthdays were noted, small gifts given and “Happy Birthday” was sung. New members welcomed were Richard and Constance Godin. Members voted to purchase three raffle tickets, with any winning to go to help purchase a handicap entrance.

Pot of gold winners were Jeanette Parisi, Irene Coady, Tom Monegan and Florence Bergeron. The meeting adjourned and a light lunch was served. Bingo followed.

Open Bingo for seniors age 60 and over will be held Wednesdays, May 9, 16 and 23.

New group

LEWISTON – Beacon Hospice “Harbors of Hope” Bereavement Program will start a grief support group on Tuesday, May 22, hosted by Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 62 Strawberry Ave.

The group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 22 through July 10. Call Jane Whetstine, bereavement coordinator, at 784-4242 or e-mail [email protected] for information. Preregistration is required.

Dads classes

LEWISTON – To support men to become be the best dads they can be, Advocates for Children will offer a six-week “Nurturing Father’s Program” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. beginning Wednesday, May 23, at Advocates for Children, B Street Community Center, 57 Birch St.

Participants will learn about fathering from A-to-Z and will discuss ideas about fathering with other men. The course is free. For more information, call 783-3990. Registration is required and child care is available.

Advocates for Children is collaborating with Androscoggin Head Start and Childcare to offer the program.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on May 7 were: first, Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin; second/third tie, Lucille Bilodeau and Nancy Lindgren with Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; fourth, Della Starbird and Eileen Potvin; fifth, Nancy Farmer and Dick Allen first in C, Marlene and Conrad Violette.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays, a mini-lesson is given, and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie at 783-1734 for more information.
