Paving bids
Issue: Selecting the winning bid for this summer’s road paving program
The scoop: Road Manager Arlan Saunders opened two bids for the summer paving program: one from Pike Industries and the other from RC and Sons. Both bids, in the $250,000 range, were within dollars of one another. Selectmen directed Saunders to check the bids over and authorized him to make a decision based on his findings.
Up next: A decision on who will pave town roads and the existing parking lot at Minot Consolidated School will be made early next week.
Condition of Grange Avenue
Issue: The effect building a new road in Verrill Homestead subdivision might have on Grange Avenue
The scoop: This week, Saunders will inspect and photograph Grange Avenue with a representative of C.H. Stevenson Inc. to determine and document the condition of Grange Avenue prior to the construction of the subdivision road. The developer, Bill Turner of Maine Source Homes, has agreed to accept responsibility for any excessive damage that construction of the new road might cause.
School funding
Issue: Whether Minot will hold a special town meeting to revise the 2007-08 school budget and include an as-yet-to-be-determined addition amount of state aid to education it was not figured on when voters set the budget at March town meeting.
The scoop: School Committee Chairwoman Lisa Sabatine told selectmen that unofficial figures from the state show the town receiving $158,000 more than the amount in the original budget. Selectmen would like to include the total amount of state aid in order to reduce property taxes now.
Up next: Once the state releases official funding figures, selectmen may call a special town meeting.
