Nursing course

LEWISTON – The Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing will present a microbiology course beginning in late May.

The four-credit course, which will include lecture and laboratory components, will begin on Tuesday, May 29, and conclude on July 12. The lectures will be presented from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The lab sessions will be on the same days from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The instructor will be Kim Emery. The course will be presented at the CMMC School of Nursing, 70 Middle St. Tuition will be charged. For more information, call Kathy Jacques at 795-2858.

Memorial barbecue

LISBON – VFW Post 9459, Route 196, will host its annual Memorial Day barbecue from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26. The menu will be steak or ribs with all the fixings, dessert, coffee or tea. The cost is $10. Stop by the post to reserve a meal or call 353-4879. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Meal, meeting

AUBURN – The Androscoggin Historical Society will hold its annual dinner and final program of the season’s lecture series Tuesday, May 22, at the High Street Congregational Church.

W. Dennis Stires, society president, will present a history of three black families from northern Androscoggin County, with an exhibit for each family and a brief oral summary.

Dinner, to be served at 6 p.m. will be $9 a person. Reservations should be made by Friday, May 18.

The program is free and open to the public. The building is wheelchair-accessible.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on May 8 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners were: first, Luke Merry and Michael Quinn; second, Pat Garcia and David Lock; third, Jeanine Kivus and Martine Begert; tied at fourth, Nancy Lindgren and Rosemarie Goodwin with Shirley West and Patricia Smith. Another game will be played on Tuesday, May 15, at the center.

The club also met on May 9 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: first, Leslie Buzzell and John Hackett; second, Anna Vitiello and Carolyn Robertson; third, Rosemarie Goodwin and Lucille Theriault; fourth, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

Another game will be played on Wednesday, May 16, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at both games. For more information and/or a partner, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.
