WILTON – A Jay man recently released from state prison for assault was charged Thursday with beating a woman in her apartment early in the morning.

Police used a Taser gun to subdue Jonathan J. Nurse, 33, Chief Dennis Brown said.

The two knew each other, he added.

Nurse broke into her home at Fernwold Apartments, and when she tried to call 911, he broke the phone, Brown said. The woman managed to get a cell phone and called police, but before they could arrive she was beaten.

Wilton and Farmington police found her with blood on her shirt and broken glass in the apartment.

Officer Blaine Radcliff said the woman refused treatment for leg injuries.

Nurse resisted arrest and Farmington police used a Taser gun to subdue him, Brown said.

Nurse was charged with burglary, domestic assault, obstructing the reporting of a crime, simple assault and probation violation, a Franklin County jail officer said. He had recently been released from Maine State Prison for assault, the officer said.

Nurse is being held at the Franklin County Detention Center awaiting a court appearance.
