JAY – A Jay man posted $1,000 cash bail after he was accused of unlawful sexual contact with a girl under the age of 12 on Thursday.

Joshua Welch, 26, of East Jay Road was arrested on a charge of felony unlawful contact, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

The girl, who knew Welch, was allegedly assaulted twice during April at her residence, he said.

Welch was taken to the Franklin County jail in Farmington and released after he posted bail Thursday.

Primary investigator on the case was Detective Richard Caton IV. He was assisted by White.

Welch is scheduled to appear June 29 at the Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington.
