WILTON – A Wilton police officer found seven marijuana plants at the home of Cory Nuzzo, 18, of East Wilton, on Thursday while searching for a wanted person.

Officer Steven Smith found a cultivating facility in one of the rooms of the home at 1416 Main St., said police Chief Dennis Brown. Smith seized growing material, a light and heat source and seven marijuana plants at different stages of growth, although most were about 1 foot high, Brown said.

The officer entered the home with owner consent because police had reason to believe that a person with mental health issues that they had been searching for was either at or headed to the residence.

Nuzzo was summoned to appear in court on a charge of cultivation marijuana, he said.

Wilton police were also involved in an OUI checkpoint Saturday held between 10:30 p.m. and 2 a.m. Sunday morning on Route 2 as part of collaborative effort with Maine State police. During the checkpoint, police brought three criminal charges, one charge for driving under the influence and issued verbal and written warnings, Brown said.
