LIVERMORE – Selectpersons voted Monday night to terminate transfer station attendant Alfred Day’s employment with the town.
Day was fired for being in violation of the town’s personnel policy and for unauthorized taking of town property, said Kurt Schaub, the board’s administrative assistant, on Tuesday.
Day was taking scrap metal, according to Schaub. The police were not notified, Schaub said.
Day, who was unavailable for comment Tuesday, worked 24 hours a week at the station and has worked for the town since 1995.
The board met in executive session with Day to afford him due process and the opportunity to hear the violations on file against him before selectpersons took action, Schaub said.
The executive session began at 6:30 p.m. and ended 17 minutes later.
The personnel policy violation cited was on Section V, Part A, Schaub said. That portion of the policy covers public and employee relations.
“The employees are prohibited in engaging in any conduct that could reflect unfavorably on the town or disrupt the efficient operation of the administration of the town,” the policy states. “Town employees must avoid any action, which might result in or create the impression of using public employment for private gain, giving preferential treatment to any person, or losing complete impartiality in conducting town business.”
It was also mentioned, Schaub said, that Day was counseled on actions previously.
