LEWISTON – The Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is one of several conservation districts working to better advertise local agriculture products.

The task is to be accomplished through a promotional brochure, which shows the location of each participating producer. In addition, it gives a brief description of product lines, hours of operation and contact information.

The goal in producing a food and farm “Ag Map” is simply to assist local agricultural producers remain “on the land” and remain in business.

Each map produced and distributed will increase the participating producers’ visibility, extend their marketing outreach and increase their sales. The map will market locally grown food and farm products at local farm stands and farm markets.

It can be used to illustrate the array of products available at farm stands along any road network. The public can use it to identify unique on-farm activities like pick your own, community supported agriculture and hayrides.

Those who want to have their farm stand appear on the map should call Jane Heikkinen at 753-9400, ext. 400, to get an information sheet and map for location. There will be a cost of $20 for a listing.

The district hopes to get the map into the hands of the public by July 4 and it needs payment and information by May 31.
