Calling Tom Allen’s performance in Congress “insignificant” (Nathaniel Walton, Sun Journal, May 13) is comparable to blaming a football or baseball player for losing a game, even though they were not allowed to play in the game.
Allen probably had several bills he would like to have introduced during the six years of Republican control, but was likely stymied by Tom DeLay and Bill Frist blocking Democrats from introducing bills or amendments.
I am not going to criticize Sen. Susan Collins. She has worked hard for the citizens of our state and our country. I am going to listen to what Allen has to say. I know he was a Rhodes scholar, that he is thoughtful, honest, diligent, bipartisan and well-respected.
Tom Allen could be the best candidate to help lead our country out of the mess we are in. I see him in a league with Ed Muskie and George Mitchell.
I hope that Maine voters will carefully weigh what each has to say, and vote for the candidate in which they have the most confidence.
