Dear Sun Spots: Is there any way you could please find me the name and address of the jockey who won this year’s Kentucky Derby? – No Name, No Town.

Answer:
Sun Spots had the pleasure of speaking with Buck, (Julian Wheat, director of Horsemen’s Relations at Churchill Downs), who admits there’s a lot of excitement in Louisville, especially at Churchill Downs. Buck says the winning jockey, Calvin Borel, is just like the person you’ve read about. He’s pretty humble and is loved around the Downs. They are mighty proud of their star jockey, and of course Street Sense, the horse Borel rode to the finish line.

Buck says you can write to Borel c/o Churchill Downs, 700 Central Ave., Louisville, KY 40208. Please be sure to mark your correspondence to the attention of Jockey Calvin Borel, Jockey’s Room, or Jock’s Room as they call it there.

Dear Sun Spots: A friend of mine has inherited a brand name Kalamazoo acoustic guitar that may date back to the 1930s. She would like to have the instrument’s value appraised and determine if it can be returned to playable condition. Any idea if any local or regional music stores might provide these services? Thank you for any assistance. – No Name, Lewiston.

Dear Sun Spots: As some people would say, I wasn’t thinking ahead when I decided to purchase a few chickens as pets a couple of years ago. We had one for each of us and now we have 20! What I am hoping to get help with would be the amount of waste we have now. I have made some inquiries about what to do with it and most say to put it in a garden with lime or try to give it to a farmer, but then I have the problem of transporting it. Does anyone know somebody who would like free chicken manure and could come get it? I’ll help shovel it out and even toss in a dozen of fresh eggs to boot!!!! I can be reached via phone at 966-3052. – Mother Hen in Turner.

Dear Sun Spots: I have several questions I’m hoping Sun Spots or column readers can help answer for me.

First, where would one be able to find a summer camp job for one who did not go to college? Where would one be able to buy sarsparilla soda or birch syrup or birch candy in Maine? And lastly, where in the Lewiston area might I be able to buy aged compost for use in a garden? – No Name, Lewiston.

Answer: There are several listings that come up on the Internet for summer camp employment. If you type your request into Google you can pick and choose your options from the lists provided. You can then call or contact the ones you locate to see if they require a college degree for working in their facility.
