Jay police Chief Larry White Sr. accepts a check for $1,155 Tuesday from Becky Rider, whose business, U.S. Cellular authorized agent of Shipper’s Express, in Livermore Falls and Jay, respectively. The business sponsored the Harlem Rockets vs. area law enforcement basketball game in April to benefit drug awareness programs for schoolchildren in Jay and SAD 36. White said the money will be used to educate children about the dangers of drugs. They won’t be using the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in Jay schools this year, since the money was cut from the budget, but they will be looking at another program. Livermore Falls police Chief Ernest Steward Jr., who will receive the same amount of money from Rider, said his department will use the money toward a DARE program targeting fifth-graders in SAD 36.
