YARMOUTH – Leah Wilcox recently won the title as the state champion for the National Readers Digest Word Power Challenge. She is the daughter of David and Doreen Wilcox of North Yarmouth and the granddaughter of Maurice and Marie Poulin of Jay.

The national competition took place on Mother’s Day weekend and will be aired on NBC this summer. Readers Digest sent Leah and her family to Orlando, Fla., to watch the competition and visit Sea World.

Wilcox, an avid reader, said, “I am just happy that I have had the experience of winning the state title and I can’t wait to meet people who read continuously like me!”

The Reader’s Digest National Word Power Challenge is a vocabulary contest designed for schools nationwide with any or all of grades four through eight. There are four levels of competition: classroom, grade, state and national.
