TURNER – SAD 52 Adult and Community Education has announces some of its summer offerings.

A brief introduction to Maine’s geologic history will begin Monday, June 18, and continue on Wednesday and Friday. There will also be a Saturday field trip. Participants will learn about Maine geology and look at some of the geological events that made Maine the state it is.

Coach Tammy Anderson will run a summer basketball camp for girls entering grades eight through 12 beginning Monday, June 18. It will offer a combination of skills, drills and games. Camp will require a commitment of two to three days a week. The schedule will include some Tuesday away games.

Girls high school summer soccer will start Monday, June 18, and run for six weeks. The main goal is to allow incoming eighth-graders and high school age girls develop skills, learn strategies and meet personal and team goals through practice sessions and games.

Boys high school summer soccer will also start Monday, June 18. Practice will work on skills and conditioning to be prepared for the fall high school season. Home games will be played on the Leavitt High School field and away games in the area. Players will need to supply their own water bottle, cleats, mouth guards and shin guards.

A six-week beginner dog obedience class has the goal of a courteous dog and correction of behavior problems. It will start Wednesday, June 20. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Adult Education has an ongoing family literacy program, working with many children to assist them to strengthen their reading skills and boost their self-esteem. There are limited slots available in the seven-week program beginning Monday, June 25.

A Androscoggin River Land Nature Hike will be held Saturday, June 30. It will be easy walking through woods and dirt trails.

American Red Cross baby-sitter’s training will be offered for students ages 11 to 15. The course, which will run July 9 through 13, includes child and infant CPR certification. Students must attend all classes and pass a written multiple-choice CPR test.

The second session of tumbling classes will begin Monday, July 9 with classes on Monday in Turner and Wednesday in Greene. Students will enhance their coordination, strength, balance and flexibility while improving tumbling skills.

The first session of summer driver education classes will start July 9. Students must be at least age 15 on the first day of class. There will be 30 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of driving. Students need to bring their original birth certificate, paper and pen. Registration and payment arrangements need to be made through Karen’s Driving School at 783-7483.

A Leavitt youth soccer camp will be held July 9 through 13 to develop skills and love of the sport. Leavitt girls soccer team will offer this camp for grades three through seven. Players will go through stations that will work on specific goals each day and will have various contests to test skills already learned.

“Basic Computer” will be held Mondays and Thursdays starting July 9. It will teach basic skills using Windows (XP or Vista) and Internet, e-mail and other Windows-based programs like Microsoft Word, plus shortcuts and useful tips.

Tumbling camp will take place July 9 through 13 for ages 5 to 18, separated into age groups. There will be one-on-one instruction, group instruction, fitness games, relay races and obstacle courses.

Hip-hop dance classes will run for six weeks starting on Tuesday, July 10. They will encompasses elements of moves such as popping, locking, sliding, stepping and free style movements to give dancers the opportunity to develop their own style. No dance background needed. Wear comfortable clothing.

Beginner and intermediate private 30- to 45-minute piano lessons will start Thursday, July 12. All ages are welcome. Time slots will be arranged by the instructor.
