LEWISTON – Two undercover police officers patrolling for underage drinkers arrested a 16-year-old Sunday night after a brief chase.

But he hadn’t been drinking or buying alcohol.

Lt. Michael McGonagle and Officer Roger Landry were driving along Main Street in their unmarked car scouring the streets for liquor violations when they saw the youth darting out the door of Subway restaurant, Deputy Police Chief Michael Bussiere said.

After catching up to him, the teen confessed to prying open the restaurant’s doors. He said he fled with empty arms as soon as the shop’s alarm sounded.

The boy also admitted to burglarizing two vehicles earlier. One of them was a car police believe belonged to a Subway worker.
