Lions dance
PARIS – A chem-free dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the South Paris Legion Hall, Church Street, sponsored by the Norway/Paris Lions Club. Cost is $10 a person and tickets will be available at the door. Music will be by the Belairs. Hot dogs, baked goods and soda will be available and there will be a 50/50 raffle.
Breakfast set
STONEHAM – Stoneham Rescue’s annual Memorial Day breakfast will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. Sunday, May 27, at the station, Butters Hill Road. The menu will include plain or blueberry pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, coffee, juice, tea or hot chocolate. Cost is $5 a person; $2.50 for children 12 and under.
Bake sale
OXFORD – A bake sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Wal-Mart, Route 26, to benefit the Oxford Grange building fund.
Church supper
PARIS – A baked bean supper will be held with two seatings at 5 and 6 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the First Baptist Church of Paris. There will be several kinds of baked beans with hot dogs, casseroles, lasagna, homemade brown bread, yeast rolls, coleslaw, salad, desserts and beverages. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12.
Take-out orders will be available by calling 743-5198 after 3 p.m. and picked up between 4 and 5 p.m. Proceeds will be used for office equipment and developing a Web site for the church.
Yard sale
SUMNER – The Sumner Fire Department Auxiliary will hold its annual yard and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Sumner Fire Station. Proceeds will be used for the construction of a heli pad, for medical helicopters to land in case of emergencies in the area.
Refreshments will be for sale. There will also be a plant table. Donated items will be accepted. Call Dianna at 388-2628 or Wilda at 388-2981.
Dance postponed
WEST PARIS – The Finnish dance lessons, scheduled for Saturday, June 2, have been postponed until Saturday, June 23. Classes are held at the Finnish American Heritage Center, 8 Maple St. Classes are free and open to the public. No partner is required. Everyone is welcome.
Scrapbooking
NORWAY – A day of scrapbooking will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, to benefit the St. Catherine’s Youth Ministry on their pilgrimage to Sydney, Australia. Table space is $15 for six hours, with a Creative Memories consultant to offer ideas and supplies. Lunch is included. To reserve a spot, call Kathy Keene at 743-2616.
Boys state
PARIS – Oxford Hills Christian Academy has announced that Christopher Dyck, a junior at the academy, has been selected as a delegate for Boys State this summer. He will attend a weeklong session at Thomas College in Waterville in June to learn about state and local government. Dyck is being sponsored by the South Paris American Legion. He resides in South Paris with his parents and sisters.
Kids fishing
PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. – The White Mountain National Forest’s 16th annual Kids Free Fishing Day will be held Saturday, June 2, at the pond at Wildcat Ski Area on Route 16 south of Gorham. Kids age 15 and under are invited to fish from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by afternoon fishing for all ages. There is no charge for the day, no fishing license is necessary and all are welcome.
U.S. Forest Service Fisheries Biologist Jay Milot will be on shore to offer kids one-on-one instruction in rigging gear and all things having to do with fish and fishing.
The morning will also feature a casting event, learning stations and a small fishing pool. Prizes will be awarded at noon. The day will happen rain or shine. Kids should bring an adult and their own gear. For more information, call the Forest Service at 466-2713 (TTY 603-466-2856).
Santa program
WATERFORD – Waterford Santa will start a new program for students entering grades kindergarten through 12 in the fall. The organization hopes to buy backpacks, school supplies, outfits and sneakers for children of families who need help. Applications have been sent home with students. Applications must be in by July 1.
Extra applications are available at Waterford Elementary School and at the town hall. Those who would like to contribute can mail donations to Waterford Santa, PO Box 298, Waterford, ME 04088. For more information, call 583–6677.
