Board: Sabattus selectmen

Met: Tuesday

Animal budget has ripple effects

Issue: Sabattus and Lisbon share animal control services, with each town paying half the budget. But Sabattus’ budget for 2008 was trimmed by $3,545 during the town meeting, which has left Lisbon wondering how it will be affected by the cutback.

Up next: Police Chief Tom Fales will sit down with his counterpart, Lisbon police Chief David Brooks, to discuss the situation soon.

Dangerous behavior

Issue: Vandals stole road hazard barriers marking the closed section of Webster Corner Road, which washed out during an April storm, and motorists and pedestrians alike have been reported using the closed road, road foreman John Hyde said.

Up next: Several cement barriers from public works will be used to block the washout. Town crews are waiting on a hydrologist from the state to finish site testing before the replacement culvert can be installed and federal emergency funds used to pay for the project.

No more waste oil

Issue: Residents no longer will be able to take waste oil to the transfer station for recycling. Call the transfer station at 375-2507 for more information.

Not as much money

Issue: Voters during town meeting cut the transfer station budget by almost $14,000.

Up next: Board members will meet with station manager Jerry Sabins next week to determine where cuts can be made to meet the new budget requirements.

Manager search continues

The scoop: Board and search committee members met with two candidates Thursday night and will meet with a third at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29. Committee Chairman Norm LaPlante suggested that the board should make a decision soon, as several other towns also are looking for new managers and competition for qualified candidates likely will increase.
