FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Miguel Angel Hoyos scored the equalizer in the 14th minute on Saturday to help Bolivia tie Ireland 1-1 in an exhibition match.
It was the second consecutive 1-1 game on a U.S. tour for Ireland, which played to a draw against Ecuador in East Rutherford, N.J., on Wednesday.
Shane Long gave Ireland the lead in the 12th minute, heading a cross from Alan O’Brien.
Long had missed earlier when he gathered the ball in to the left of the net but was blocked by Suarez.
Two minutes later, Juan Carlos Arce had a shot close in but hit the post. As play continued, Hoyos got the ball and buried in the net to tie the score.
In the 42nd minute, a Bolivian defender deflected the ball into the air and toward the goal. But Ireland keeper Nicky Colgan knocked it away before an attacker could get to it.
Ireland pushed a series of threats early in the second half, but one shot sailed high, Suarez punched one away, and he intercepted a cross, outleaping an attacker for the ball. Bolivia couldn’t connect off a free kick in the 73rd minute, whiffing on a cross that bounced near the goal line.
The game was played before a sparse crowd in the first half of a doubleheader at Gillette Stadium. The New England Revolution and Kansas City Wizards in the nightcap.
