NORWAY – Stone Smart American Legion Auxiliary 82 met May 9 with newly elected President Marilyn Jones presiding.

Marjy Sessions, membership chairwoman, reported there are now 100 members. Joyce Clifford and Rose Moulton reported that there will be a yard sale at Great Scott Storage from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 28.

Jones spoke on her project for the year, which will be the plaque at Cummings Mill honoring all the years the mill was in Norway.

It was voted to purchase a flag for the Field of Flags the Department of Maine is sponsoring. The flags will line the Maine Turnpike. The flag will honor the veterans at the Maine Veterans Home in Paris.

Ellen Snow reported that she has donated to community services $680 in goods. Items include clothes for all ages, household items, baby items and toys.

Memorial Day plans were made. Rose Moulton and Joyce Clifford will carry the flags, Marie Pingree and Kim Hansen will serve as guards. Marilyn Jones will lay flowers at Witherall Park, Jean Millett, Marie Pingree and Kim Hansen will lay wreaths at Veterans Memorial Park and Marjy Sessions will be in charge of refreshments, with members helping.

Jean Millett, Kim Hansen and Joyce Clifford will serve on the Scholarship Committee.

Members voted on following donation: expense money for Girls Staters and to Bessey Motors for a baseball sign at the ball field to show support for American Legion baseball.

They also voted to purchase booklets about the flag and small flags for second grade classes at Guy E. Rowe School on Flag Day. Kim Hansen was presented a gift for her year as president by Secretary Joyce Clifford.

The meeting was preceded by a chicken pie supper, chaired by Marjy Sessions with women from the unit helping.

Installation preceded the meeting. Department President Marlene Angers was installing officer; Bunny Greenlaw, installing sergeant-at-arms; and Ruth Jucius, past department president and past Eastern Division vice president, installing chaplain.

Installed were Marilyn Jones, president; Jean Millett, first vice; Thelma Denlinger, second vice; Joyce Clifford, secretary; Rose Moulton, treasurer; Barbara Henley, historian; Christine Weiss, chaplain; Marie Pingree, sergeant-at-arms; Ellen Snow, Eleanor Durant and Beulah Ayer, executive committee.
