Students receive Somalia lesson

PARIS – Students received an in-depth lesson in the history and culture of Somalia as part of Elaine Dunton’s “Introduction to Sociology” class in Central Maine Community College’s Western Maine Center in South Paris on April 18.

Dressed in native attire, their seven Somali classmates used a PowerPoint presentation and narration to provide information about their country, its traditions, religion, food and holidays. To complete the experience, everyone sampled some typical Somalia food baked for the occasion.

As a satellite campus of the Auburn-based college, a variety of classes ranging from “Introduction to Sociology” to “Statistics” are offered at the South Paris site. The classes are taught on-site, in the classroom or computer lab, at the Western Maine University and Community College Center.

Summer Session I classes are under way, Session II classes will begin July 10 and fall classes on Sept. 4. For a complete schedule of classes or additional information, contact Barbara Livingston at 743-9322 or [email protected].

The center is located at 232 Main St., South Paris.
