Advocate staffs attend banquet
AUBURN – Members of the 2006-2007 Academic Advocate staffs from Philip W. Sugg Middle School and Lisbon High School, along with their families, attended an end-of-the-year banquet on May 23 at St. Dominic Regional High School.
The banquet was sponsored by the Sun Journal newspaper group for all students who meet the criteria for attending the event. Students are required to write a minimum of four stories through the course of the 16 weeks the Academic Advocate is published during the school year.
“Lisbon students worked very hard this year and submitted some amazing stories and photos. Their adviser, Monica Millhime, worked hard as well. She was the only adviser who represented two schools this year and worked with two different groups of students,” said Leo Baillargeon, Advocate Eeitor.
The Philip W. Sugg Advocate staff this year was Michelle Hatherley, Holly Hogan, Kyrstin Ramich and Adam Thebeau.
The Lisbon High School Advocate staff was Sara Adams, Ashley Beaulieu, Sierra Guay, Morgan Hatherley and Janelle Withers. Both staffs meet every other week throughout the school year to discuss topics and assignment deadlines.
Sierra Guay, a member of the class of 2009, who was awarded the John M. Robinson Award, given in memory of Robinson, who established this vehicle for the Sun Journal as an actual “newspaper” devoted to stories written by middle and high school students.
Holly Hogan, class of 2012, received an honorable mention for the Robinson Award.
“This is a talented group of young writers with a passion for reporting the news with their own unique styles,” said Millhime.
“The Academic Advocate is a unique vehicle of the Sun Journal newspaper group. It provides an opportunity for our students to work in a journalist environment and contribute news and information from the students’ perspective. We are very fortunate to have local community partners in Lisbon who share a passion for news and provide support for our schools and its young journalists,” said Millhime.
