Optimist Club President George Mathews, right, is shown presenting the Optimist Creed to guest speaker Jonathan LaBonte, Androscoggin Land Trust. LaBonte gave a presentation on the trust and how it is helping conserve more than 2,700 acres of land, including five miles along the Androscoggin River. LaBonte is a lifelong resident of New Auburn. He is employed by the Maine Turnpike Authority and is columnist for the Twin City Times. The Optimist Club meets for lunch monthly at Chopsticks Restaurant in Lewiston.
